A painting based on Chiron (or Kheiron) the centaur. Chiron was the eldest and wisest of the Centaurs, a tribe of half-horse men. He was son of the Titan, Kronos and a nymph named Philyra.

Chiron was different from the other Centaurs, as they were wild and and unpredictable. He was a great teacher and mentored many of the heroes of myth, such as Jason, Peleus and Achilles.

Eventually Chiron died at the hands of his friend Hercules, accidentally wounded by an arrow dipped in the blood of the Hydra.
