Jeff- totally did that with Tarzan of the Apes. Did 200 illustrations for Tarzan for the Burroughs Bibliophiles and it was published. It was really nice to have a body of work that helped build my portfolio. Plus that's what true illustration is- doing pictures for stories, covers, commercial endeavors etc. I say if Howard is your bliss follow that. Your best work can only come from doing what you love. I'm planning on doing a series of Sword and sorcery paintings that evoke Conan, Elric, Jirei of joiry, Fafyrd and the Gray Mouser etc. Just pieces with ambiguous titles that elude to these influences. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Tarzan.../dp/1456450891/ref=sr_1_1...

You know what? It's a plan. I can't wait to see an art book of yours FULL of Conan paintings. I can't wait to see every copy sell off, as well.

It's time to take yours. I do envy your body of work. You're doing what I've always wanted to do, but never had the time for it.

Yeah that damn fan / art / selling works based on existing intellectual properties of others is a touchy thing. Sorry it bit you in the arse. Move forward good sir and keep the challenge of defying the negativity in hand and your pen in the other. Can't loose.

Can't wait to see what you come up with. I think u can still do fan art for commissions and stuff. no one can stop you drawing and painting them. and then if u sell privately then that's your business. it'd be a shame never to see a Lafferty Han Solo or Yoda again.

I'm not a long time listener. I've watched your last 3 videos. Like right when it started going bad for you. I've been doing "fan art" too. Peppered some original artworks here and there but figured that people would be more interested in subjects they can recognize. I've not had the balls to put stuff up for sale as of now although I've quit my day job for awhile, trying to piece stuff together by the skin of my teeth every month. I'll tell you what I believe. And I might be projecting a little bit here cause I've been thinking the exact same thing you seem to be going through. I have as much imagination as those guys who create comic books movies etc. Maybe this is some kind of sign (And believe me I hate it when my wife talks about signs cause I'm not much of a believer) that I should put all of my energy in doing original stuff. I mean, some people do it and are pretty successful with it so why not us ? Anyways I feel for you man. Good luck with everything.
