I'm friends with several illustrators and its rare to have a steady flow of work. I'm freelance and my work RPG, CCGs and Book Covers are sporadic at best. Fantasy illustration is a niche within a niche. So you do commercial work or as you suggested sell your own ideas. Real honest insight on this one Jeff. I think as an illustrator you have to have a clear goal in mind. Mine is definitely book illustration, but for others its comics, gaming content or film work. Best advice I ever got was from Tom Kidd. He said, "Jonathan your hand skills are sharp. Now you have to be wise enough to not allow everyone to tell you what to draw and be brave enough to follow your bliss." I think he was hinting at what your point was in this cast. Do your thing with all your passion and it will eventually work out.

Cool show Jeff. That was great watching you airbrush. I've never done it before, so that was a treat. And great message about working to get noticed.

Man I miss these! I'm definitely going to be watching them again sorry I kind of fell off the map there for a minute. I love that line about not working towards what you don't actually want! Really glad you're still going strong man keep it up!

Totally agree. There's too many assholes out there looking to take advantage of fresh talent because they know how to manipulate people with empty promises. And when people get desperate, like in a shit economy, there's a lot of people who will take work for next to no pay. Doesn't matter what industry it's in. But really, once people start doing that too much it devalues everyone's work. So this is a great topic.

This sort of thing is taking place in many industries right now. Specially in my industry with IT and Web. A lot of unpaid internships going on so companies get used to the idea they can get people to work for free. It's pretty annoying. And this explains why so many are having a hard time finding paid work.

Everyone from Engineers to PhD's are encountering the same problem.

Sometimes you just have people who insist on finding fault and backing out after you put the time in. That's why I don't do anything without payment first anymore.
