Thanks again Tawny, I have the entry form for Spectrum, I might submit this, or something else. I've submitted in the past, its a tough book to get into.
via DeviantArt Man, I feel bad for ya with the whole "copy rights" stuff. The fact that other 'artists' are hunting you down and taking from your family, just so they can feel more secure with their corner of the market really offends me.
And it's really just about them taking out competition. So selfish an act man, especially if the company itself wasn't concerned originally; but some whistle blower who just wants to hurt another person for their own amusement? They'll get what they deserve with that behavior. Dust your hands and walk away from those people, I believe you'll still do well and prosper in the wake of their attempts to ruin you. I understand people do messed up stuff, copy other peoples art etc. But in my opinion what you were doing was the fan art equivalent of portraits on demand for clients in the private collector field. A lot of your fan art was a showcase of skill that allowed customers to see the width of your ability.
Not that fan art itself was the purpose but that it was 'a kind of' gateway for acceptance. I mean who doesn't like a friendly face that you acknowledge? It's about finding appreciation for the source of the art. Like, I love your Hulk stuff. It's an avenue of advertising really, but when another artist sees something like :thumb484216619: and is like "I pay official blah blah, shut this guy down". It's really disgusting, because I look at his work and it seems really 'copy & paste' to me. I don't get the same enjoyment from viewing his work that I do from yours. But he sees your sales and says to himself "That money should be mine". (not that he actually said that, but why else would you go after somebody. Unless you feel threatened?) Sad thing when we don't have competition in the world, because if you didn't have Xbox1 vs PS4 you would get stuck with the kinect for the rest of your life and have no say! Competition makes us better. But instead of upping his/their game and getting better they smash the small market instead. That's sad.
I have a poster of Spiderman painted by Moebius where he is sitting in a chunk in the wall. But it doesn't look like any place I've seen Spider-man ever, but it's still really cool art even if I can't tell where he is or why he is there. Should it never exist because it doesn't look official? Art is about perspective and not one person can ever corner that market, one good thing about it is you can expand on the other stuff like Peter Pan, Conan and Sherlock etc. Paint a sweet gator busting out of the water and biting off the hand of Hook etc. Disney made a killing off those kinds of stories. Public domain stuff is vast and when doing fantasy stuff you have a huge area to sow seeds. The new minotaur piece looks sweet, I think this'll be one of those 'side step' an obstacle moments. Stay strong, I'm root'n for ya!
via DeviantArt Now that's the sh*t I'm talkin' bout!!
Jeff, it looks like you directed some of passion form your web video right into this painting, it's just superb. If you're looking to re-invent yourself as a fantasy illustrator, mission accomplished.
via Facebook I LOVE this piece! the movement of the minotaur and the snarled open mouth really give it a phenomenal feeling for boding feeling. I studied the story of theseus and the minotaur and i think you really captured both characters beautifully. Would you mind if I shared this painting with my myth and monsters teacher? he would love it!
